What’s indeed a surprise package is the comeback of Akshaye Khanna, the brawny bad guy who gives the protagonists a run for their money. The background score of the film is enjoyable, and so is Akhay Kumar’s never-seen-before avatar donning a man bun and much swagger. The film’s screenplay - modelled around the 1970s era - is a beauty. “Subha Hone Na De(Remix)” Singer(s): Mika Singh and Shefali Alvares Duration: 04:59 What’s Good? “Ishqa” Singer(s): Abhijeet Sawant & Antara Mitra Duration: 02:47 6. “Jaaneman Aah(Version 2)” Singer(s): Nakash Aziz & Antara Mitra Duration: 02:47 5. “Sau Tarah Ke Revisited” Singer(s): Abhijeet Sawant & Aditi Singh Sharma Duration: 03:59 4. “Jaaneman Aah(Version 1)” Singer(s): Aman Trikha & Antara Mitra Duration: 03:50 3. “Toh Dishoom” Singer(s): Raftaar & Shahid Mallya Duration: 04:02 3. “Sau Tarah Ke” Singer(s): Jonita Gandhi & Amit Mishra Duration: 03:58 2. In my opinion, the original “Subah Hone Na De” is far better than this one. Singers of the original track have been roped in to sing this track as well, but amid the EDM beats. Finally, Dishoom has the popular Desi Boyz song “Subah Hone Na De” in a remixed version. With disappointing lyrics and boring music, the track fails to connect with the listeners. Next in-line is “Ishqa” which is an average composition and has been influenced by some prominent English tracks. Both the tracks have foot tapping beats and will become popular among the teens. Like “Sau Tarah Ke”, this song has also been presented in two different versions, with the second version sung by Antara Mitra and Nakash Aziz. Well, the track has nothing special to offer and has common beats. Then there is the much-talked about item song featuring Parineeti Chopra and Varun Dhawan. With a slight resemblance to the title track of ‘Desi Boys’, “Toh Dishoom” would grab the listener’s attention for a longer time. Next is “Toh Dishoom”, which is a Punjabi number superbly sung by Raftaar and Shahid Mallya. The song is going to become an instant hit in discotheques. The second one has been beautifully sung by Abhijeet Sawant and Aditi Singh Sharma. The song comes in two different versions. The opening track “Sau Tarah Ke” is a catchy number and has the peppy vocals of Jonita Gandhi and Amit Mishra. Loaded with songs that are bound to rule the dance floor, the music album of Dishoom has received an excellent response from the music lovers. Although it fails to zip-zap-zoom, the film’s songs are blowing up on Vine like it’s nobody else’s business. John Abraham’s Kabir, Varun Dhawan’s Junaid and Jacquelin Fernandez’ Ishika all have a few bright moments and overall contribute to the action-adventure genre of the film rather predictably. Typical charaterisations come to fore in the film whose plot is wafer-thin, lacks originality and is somewhat cliched. What’s also to be lauded is the entertainer that Varun Dhawan is – never a dull moment when his Junaid is on screen – amid tightly chereographed and neatly edited action sequences using West Asia’s beautiful locales in the backdrop. What’s been the high point of the surprisingly pacy film is its screenplay and short cameo performances, such as that of Akshay Kumar, Nargis Fakhri and Vijay Raaz. Both, Kabir Shergill (played by John Abraham) and Junaid Ansari (played by Varun Dhawan), hailing from a Special Task Force team, go on their mission to find Viraj (played by Saqib Saleem), who has been kidnapped by Rahul Waagah (played by Akshaye Khanna). The story of Dishoom revolves around Viraj, a star batsman in the Indian cricket team, who goes missing just before the final match between India and Pakistan. Primarily an action-packed chase drama, comedy scenes in the film are thrown in for good measure. While Varun Dhawan, John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez play the lead roles, Akshaye Khanna can be seen playing the role of an antagonist. With first-of-its-kind bike stunts, Dishoom is definitely going to impress bike lovers and adrenaline junkies. Dishoom is an action-packed thriller and is loaded with lots of stunts.
